Our Approach

To provide a safe environment for youth to enjoy. To be a reliable asset for the youth of Georgetown in efforts to curb risky behaviors.

Positive Youth Development (PYD)

An intentional, prosocial approach that engages young
people within their peer groups, families and communities
in a way that empowers and enhances their strengths. PYD
is also used as a prevention approach to encourage healthy
decisions.

Our Story

In partnership with The Essex County Asset Builder (ECAB) Network through the Tower Foundation grant, we learned that the youth of Georgetown do not feel there are adequate assets available and are seeking more support.

  • Studies reveal strong and consistent relationships between the number of assets present in young people’s lives and the degree to which they develop in positive and healthful ways.
  • Results show that the greater the numbers of assets are experienced by young people, the more positive and successful their development.
  • The fewer the number of assets present, the greater the possibility youth will engage in risky behaviors such as drug use, unsafe sex, and violence.

Meet the Team

The Friends of GYCC Board is comprised of hard working volunteers who are devoted to the youth of Georgetown.

These volunteers have been working tirelessly for more than two years to define the mission and goals of the center. With a new staff in place as of November 2020, the board can re-focus on fundraising efforts. With a renewed sense of energy and urgency in the face of adversity, the board is seeking new faces! Please let us know if you’d be interested in joining us.
